Reviews
A very nice bar, and it’s quite hidden in central London. The bouncer is quite friendly. A queue can build up (5 or 6 people Deep), but the queue finishes quickly, and you will be inside in no time.
There is a small seating area upstairs when you walk in.. but there is plenty more downstairs. There is a free cloakroom downstairs, and there are toilets.
When you go downstairs, the atmosphere is amazing. But it’s very dark in there and that can be annoying when trying to look at the menu. The menu is small, and it’s hard to see what they have since the font is small and the room is very dark.
Service was really good. I ordered the “gold digger” cocktail, around £14, decent drink. Taste more like whisky and soda than a cocktail.
Overall a pleasant experience.
Didn't book but managed to get a table for drinks, bar is downstairs so it is dark which gives it an interesting look, great service, friendly staff. It was very loud and buzzing, lovely to see people really enjoying themselves.
Ordered two drinks that were advertised on one of the blackboards (even pointed at it) which were priced at 5 pounds a piece and when I got the receipt I noticed that I'd been charged for 30 instead, apparently there are two drinks with the same name sold there ("Solomon's smile"). Bartender offered a round on the house when I pointed it out, but a couple of things still bothered me, namely that there's only one drink on the print-out menus called "Solomon's Smile", the one I actually tried to order, and they automatically include a 12.5% gratuity fee on your bill. So I wonder if this is something they try to pull frequently and when caught, just offer a free round.
The drinks were pretty darn good in the end and the bouncer was friendly and even held onto a bottle of wine I had on me until I left.
Had my 30th party in The Red Room at Jack Solomons Club, having been here for a wrap party previously. The run up to the party ran smoothly and Kate, the events manager, was helpful and attentive in answering any questions I had. The night itself was good too; We played our own music, had our own bartender, they let us stay a little later after closing, good vibes and it was a great room hire for 40-ish people. I had put £400 down for canapés, which were absolutely delicious - particularly the cheeseburgers. Unfortunately though, it didn't feel like £400 worth of food.
The BIGGEST disappointment was, some of the gifts guests brought were alcohol and unable to be brought into the venue, as per their policy. Fair enough. But they were accidentally left by me and my husband that night; having to carry home 2 cakes, giant number balloons, cards, other gifts and a backpack we had brought with stuff for the party in. Also, we had a few drinks and, in the chaos, they just got left behind.
When we contacted the venue, they kept saying someone will get back to you and we waited and waited until my husband contacted them again.
They could then only initially find one bottle of champagne - which had supposedly been smashed during clean up and they said they were going to replace. They were then asking us what other bottles they were looking for in order to find them... We don't know as they were taken at the upstairs door by security, so we never physically saw what alcohol it was as the club is downstairs?! Short of texting every single person to ask if they had brought a gift for me and what it was, which is embarrassing, I'm not sure what to say or do. And, if they were left in one place for safety, they should just all be together there in the morning, no? Security/ the venue knew these people were my guests, as the bar is a speakeasy, and they would have mentioned this on the door before coming in - so everything should be together. No one should have touched them and you shouldn't have to 'look for or find them'. I would also suggest it is any bottle with the name 'Amy' on the tag or card.
The next day, one of my friends mentioned that, for some reason, the gifts were stored next door in Sophie's in a cupboard under the hostess stand and that she had seen several bottle gift bags with cards with my name on in there when she dropped her gift and card off. Which we relayed to management. Only one other bottle was recovered and no cards.
Management then tried to say that some guests had described the bottles/ gift bags to security and then "taken the bottles away with them". Just why? Why would my friends take a card and gift belonging to me that they had bought FOR ME?! Then, not only that, why did a couple of my friends (who's gifts were missing) ask if I had got them the next day if they had taken them? That doesn't even make any logical sense.
...So it would appear to us that some of the staff and/ or security had a nice, free drink on my friends.
Fair enough, we did forget them at the end of the night and we take full responsibility for that part. But if you're going to take gifts off people, as per your policy, at the very least ensure safe storage for a few days until they come and collect their 30th BIRTHDAY PRESENTS!!! Particularly when their group has spent thousands with you.
Totally uncool and unacceptable.
Fantastic venue. Great service. Superb cocktails. Brilliant music. Our host, Alain, made our night extra special and was attentive throughout the night. Will definitely be going back!
Booked Jack Solomons for our company Christmas Party and we had an amazing night! I can’t speak highly enough about Kate who organised from start to finish and was so friendly. Lucy and Christian who managed the event on the night were super helpful and lovely! We had a live band, a DJ and a photobooth, set up was easy to organise with the venue. Highly recommend hosting an event here or even coming for a cocktail - the food and drinks were spectacular!
Faced first hand racist behaviour from the bartender named Mihai three times in a row. Spoke to the manager as well but no action was taken (other than them saying please write an email to us).
After this point we tried to confront the bartender about his behaviour and he ended up throwing a drink and a GLASS at my friend (a lot of people saw this incident).
I would highly NOT recommend going to this place if you want to be treated nicely and with respect. Hands down the worst experience in London!!!
Such a cool venue & vibe. The manager, bartender & staff (thanks Alan!) were all extremely helpful, and its super chill downstairs. You're not packed in like sardines like so many other places in Soho.
